About Me

My name is Whisky (威忌). I use this name for all my games, which comes from my elementary school classmates mispronouncing my English name Windson as Whisky. I’m currently a third-year student majoring in Applied Mathematics at NCHU. I play the guitar, so you’ll often find me at the guitar club. I usually play electric guitar as the lead — responsible for solos and clowning around — and I’m happy to take song requests.

I support free and open-source software; non-open formats are just a way to hold users hostage. That’s why I avoid products from big companies like Line, Meta, Microsoft, and Google. Not because they’re not good, but because they all embrace the walled garden design. Instead, turn to open-source alternatives — this kind of software is the one truly designed with users in mind. First, open source makes it hard to hide backdoors, so your data is usually safe. Second, it typically uses open formats, so switching editors won’t cost you the price of abandoning ship. This is also why I started this blog — everything I would have posted on social media now lives here instead, recorded in my own hands, which feels much more reassuring, maybe one day we’ll need an Instagram Premium subscription just to post.

On social media, a short line of text paired with a bunch of photos can pass as a post, but on a personal blog, you’ll find more of the kind of text people usually can’t be bothered to finish reading. Text can carry the details and emotions of life, capturing more of its many facets. Unlike on social media, where carefully curated photos look dazzling but stay in people’s eyes for shorter than a firework. A blog can keep going for a very, very long time — even after I can no longer afford to maintain this domain, it will still live on in my computer.
